If you’re planning your senior photos, this is probably the biggest question on your mind:
“What should I wear?”
And here’s the honest truth. What you wear can completely change how your photos feel. The right outfit doesn’t just look good, but it makes you feel confident, relaxed, and like the best version of yourself.
So, let’s make this simple.
The goal isn’t to look like someone else.
The goal is to look like you—on your best day.
If you feel uncomfortable in it, it will show in your photos.
Start Here: Choose Outfits That Feel Like You
The goal isn’t to look like someone else.
The goal is to look like you—on your best day.
Think about:
- What you feel most confident wearing
- What you naturally reach for in your closet
- What reflects your personality (sporty, classic, trendy, minimal, bold)
If you feel uncomfortable in it, it will show in your photos
How Many Outfits Should You Bring?
For most senior sessions, I recommend:
- 3 outfits for a mini session
- More variety for a custom session
This gives you a mix of looks without feeling rushed.
A great formula:
- One casual look
- One elevated/everyday look
- One dressy or statement outfit
- One wildcard (something fun or unique to you)
- One that mom wants…
Colors That Photograph Beautifully
The camera loves certain tones.
Best choices:
- Neutrals (cream, white, tan, denim)
- Soft colors (sage, blush, light blue)
- Rich tones (burgundy, navy, forest green)
Be careful with:
- Neon colors (they reflect onto your skin)
- Large logos or graphics
- Super busy patterns
- Avoid greens in outdoors photos
Solid colors or subtle textures always win.

Fit Matters More Than You Think
Even the best outfit won’t photograph well if it doesn’t fit right.
Make sure:
- It’s not pulling, bunching, or slipping
- You can sit, stand, and move comfortably
- Undergarments are seamless and supportive
- Try everything on with the right undergarments and pack them so you don’t forget something
Try everything on ahead of time.
Not the morning of.
Details are what elevate your photos from “nice” to “wow.”
Don’t Forget the Details
Think about:
- Shoes (yes, they matter—even if they’re not always visible)
- Jewelry and accessories
- Layers (jackets, sweaters, flannels)
- Clean, pressed clothing
These small choices make a big difference.
Want Next-Level Photos? Bring Something Personal
This is what makes your session yours.
Consider bringing:
- A sports uniform or gear
- Musical instruments
- Something tied to your hobbies or future plans
These images often end up being favorites.

The Biggest Mistake Seniors Make
Overthinking it.
You don’t need 10 outfits.
You don’t need to follow every trend.
You just need a few great options that make you feel confident.
Because when you feel good—you look incredible.
